Grief Support Groups… open to the public
Coping with the death of a loved one can be difficult. Some individuals seek the assistance of a Grief Support Specialist. Others prefer spending time with a small group of people working together through their grief. Whatever you choose, we are here to help...you are not alone.

Understanding Grief: This one-time session is open to adults experiencing grief due to the death of a loved one. It is an educational experience as well as a unique support group. Participants will be introduced to the definitions of grief and mourning, discuss ways that grief affects people differently, and identify ways of getting through a time of loss during this two hour class. Widowed Support Group: This group provides individual, group support and education for widows, widowers and partners who have lost a loved one. In addition to exploring grief issues and the ways that grief affects individuals, there will be discussion on topics centered around role changes and transitions. Pre-registration is required. Coming to Terms with Loss: This group is open to adults experiencing grief due to the death of a loved one. This group for persons who have experienced a significant loss is educational as well as supportive. Pre-registration is required. Grieving Parent's Support Group: This group is open to adults experiencing grief due to the death of a child of any age. It is an educational experience well as a unique 12 week support group. Survivors of Suicide: SOS helps people adjust after a loved one completes suicide. We recognize that each survivor has his or her own sorrows and need for support and understanding. Some people come to SOS soon after the suicide; others come years later. Please call the Chaplaincy 783-6245 to for more information and to register. $120 (sliding scale) for this 12 week session.
Cancer Support Group: There is a support group for those who are dealing with the effects of cancer in their lives. Please contact Chaplain Margaret Ley at the Tri-Cities Cancer Center 737-3400 for meeting dates and times.
Cork’s Place: Cork's Place is designed for children ages 3 -18 who are grieving a loss due to a death. The program provides a safe environment where children, teens and their families share experiences and find comfort as they move through their healing process. A group for parents or caregivers is provided while the children are in their groups. Please call to register at 783-7416 ext. 3000. Hope for the Holidays: This two hour class meets to help grieving people deal with the stress, loneliness and confusion of the holiday season. Choose whatever day and time works for you during November or December. There is no charge. Call The Chaplaincy for times, location and registration at (509) 783-6243 for choice of dates and times.
All of The Chaplaincy’s Support Groups are facilitated by professional staff. These are not therapy groups. Referrals for professional therapy or other assistance will be made upon request.
