Chaplain Bill Lotz
Director of Emergency Service Chaplains

Emergency Service Chaplains provide on-the-scene pastoral care and crisis intervention in conjunction with local fire, law enforcement, and emergency response agencies.

The program currently serves 10 agencies throughout the Columbia Basin and Lower Yakima Valley using twenty to thirty volunteer Emergency Service Chaplains.

Volunteers are recruited from local clergy and others to join in volunteer response teams. Recruits spend three to four hours per month training for emergency response and share 24-hour on-call responsibilities.

Bill's office phone number is 783-7416 holismoke@msn.com

THE PROGRAM
Emergency responders have come to recognize the great value of having a chaplain on scene during life threatening incidents, and the benefit of having a chaplain serving the spiritual and emotional needs of department personnel.

As we have done with many agencies around the Columbia Basin, The Chaplaincy can help develop a team of well trained volunteer chaplains who will be available to respond to agency and community crisis needs.

  • WE search the community and recruit ministers who are interested in serving as volunteers for emergency service agencies.
  • WE train the volunteers to be professional Emergency Service Chaplains, working with emergency service agencies to learn safety and protocol on scene.
  • WE give regular ongoing training to keep your team of chaplains fit for every response scenario.
  • WE maintain the trained team, making sure they are responding and performing as needed by emergency service agencies.

THE BENEFITS
Even though the value of a chaplain is recognized by most fire and police agencies, developing a working chaplain team is not something many management personnel have the time or expertise to accomplish. This is where contracting with The Chaplaincy becomes a benefit to emergency service agencies.

Your Chaplain Team will be able to:

  • Respond as needed to the crisis scene.

  • Minister to crisis victims and their families.

  • Provide a communication channel between department and crisis victims giving a positive public image.

  • Follow the scene as it transitions to hospital or other locations, providing continuity for victims.

  • Interface with other clergy, extended family, Red Cross, and other community support mechanisms to meet needs of victims.

  • Know personnel, their families and their needs, providing an informal but professional support.

  • Provide stability for victims and personnel during crisis situations. Give direction for spiritual and emotional needs, both for victims and personnel.
